You might have thought

with the thermometers’ race to the bottom

most of the winged residents would be on holiday

Initial suspicions – verified

as scattered birdseed

lying in the neighbours car park

Remains – sadly untouched

But as Ra begins to move beyond the horizon

locals are gathered

Pigeons and swallows, magpies and all

discussing the best spots to harvest seeds

And Mother and Father Birds

are up high in the trees

keeping the next generation warm and fed

Through Winter

Meanwhile,

who’s the brightly coloured fellow

hopping along the garden fence and

dropping freshly laden snow

Its a Robin Redbreast come to say hello!
