Another Summers Afternoon

Another English town

The office staff dreaming of beaches

and getting a tan brown

But instead they’re inside baking

as sun shines through the glass

they’re wanting the clock to move faster

as seconds and minutes pass

Fans are a helpful friend today

cooling as they blow

but as the work day reaches its end

the storm clouds start to grow

The blue skies they have disappeared

as white cloud turns to grey

that chance of an after work pint in the sun

seem to have gone away

As heaven’s open and rainfall drops

the workers are on their way

to get out of the wind rain and hail

the worst of the summer today
