Reach for the Stars

When you were young

do you remember

those flights of fancy?

played out in the playground by the school

Pirate Ships Captains

Goodies and Baddies

Cowboys and Indians led by

The milky bar kid

Or flying up to space

to see who’s living on planet X

and giving Daffy duck and Porky Pig lessons

on Cosmic exploration

You held on tight, to dreams so big

but then they were bent like a twig

as teachers tried to steer you clear

of making your dreams into a career

But all these different things you learned

led to new careers, and twists and turns

and though it seems you’re far from Mars

really – it can be said – it isn’t that far

As you plot your way, across a map

a really , capable happy chap

plotting out works for people fixing afar

just like that distant faraway star
