they say the worlds getting warmer

they say the seas are rising

and if we don’t do something soon

its going to get worse

the great people of the world

discussing how to save the earth

while traders around the globe

sell stripped resources

you buy for the latest luxury

today

I watched the news today

that computer and flat screen TV

that was saved from the landfill

is being broken down for the copper

and heading back to the market

today

I watched the news today

they’ve pulped those paper food cartons

and plastic straws

sending them miles away

so you can buy them back as pencil toppers

toys and erasers in a fast food place

today

I watched the news today

eviction notices issued

to everything living by forest, sea and land

big business say – they’ve got something planned

and as the cities rise up – it’ll look grand

except where the trees and plants used to stand

today
