I can remember walking past the bakers shop

I was six or seven,

a special treat – but only to be eaten after lunch

and that was if – i could find it

you see, my treat was hiding around the bread rolls

playing peek a boo by the chocolate cakes

and skipping around the Chelsea buns

but there was always a moment

where he’d pop up in the bakers window

to say hello

adorned with glace cherries and coloured icing

so i’d forget the iced buns or the Egg Custards

and enjoy my special tasty treat

provided by the baker who made my gingerbread man
