Life in Boxes

I

They’re everywhere

in every street where there’s a

spare space

colourful boxes

with fancy designs on them

don’t be distressed

this ain’t no graffiti

it’s “State 0f the art livin’” in the “Modern metropolis”

II

Built up? Hardly

Supersized sardine tins – stacked

like jenga

the occupants – can see for miles

all the fancy landmarks

and inside the boxes – more and more boxes

holding your clothes, your books, electronics and games

III

The clothes get stored away – they’ll be out soon

The food goes in the boxes round the cooker

The pots pans and dishes – in a box by them

While the meat and milk stay cold by a box in the corner

IV

Flat pack furniture – and your supersized tv

find space in the empty box used for living

box stereo plays hide and seek

near a lamp by the sofa

V

And when there’s no room

in your oversized box – what do you do? Head

roadside to put the things out of boxes

In another box
