Popcorn Plant

popcorn plant (illustration by inky)

Confusion reigned among the staff
in the garden centre
Curiously, the conkers they were growing
for selling in pots in the greenhouse
had grown, no sprouted….no rocketed
into something a little more colourful
a little more knobbly and a little more exotic
a lot more tropical and a little less green
i mean – leaves the colours of mixed fruit drops ?
and poking through the glass towards the sky
you couldn’t call them unseen – definately unmuted
as the kids visited every blossom time
picking off popcorn from the branches and petals
