I wrote this in response to the Write Clubs “Home/Alert” Prompt and thought i’d share with my fellow wordpressers – enjoy

Railway

The news from Network Rail rang out

“To make people aware

In the event of an alert

Three sharp blasts

Will be heard from the

Station Masters whistle”

The day carried on

As rushing commuters

Grabbed vital space

Like sardines in tins

Without tomato sauce

But then out of the air

The people were aware

Of a shrill high tone

Three sharp blasts

To chill to the bone

All engines stopped

At signals propped

By station master – No glee

That signal you see ?

He was brewing up tea!
