Nautilus II

Nautilus fossil

Caught in a Moment

by time in a rock

to this creature of the deep

it must have been a shock

Old sea snail now sleeps on

in a cliff by the sands of the bay

stoic and silent

with nothing else to say

held in a case of stone

(known as lime)

a reminder of the past

(prehistoric time)

No longer playing about

in the waters of the bay

permanently benched

so in the cliff he’ll stay

But the children by the sea,

to the dunes they do flock

to see the sea snail resting

in its home in the rock
