The old thinking engine

#promptuarium #Dialogue

The young student peered at the clockwork machine

“excuse me , professor” – he asked eagerly “but what’s this used for?”

“This….” said the professor “is an Analytical engine – it was built by the House master over one hundred years ago”

He turned a key – and the cogs started moving

The student followed the cogs moving around, ball bearings passing tween buckets, travelling down channels , pressing down levers. A chain moved two weights up and down as a stamp pressed on cards of paper

and a written card appeared – spat out by the machine

“its 12.00 – Lunchtime”
