Forlorn

Forlorn

The trees out by the roadside
are looking quite forlorn
they’ve lost the leaves from autumn,
and bare branches are looking worn

The leaves are gathered around their trunk
and the feathered residents have debunked
off to a place where there’s sun by the sea
a place they can fly in the blue sky for free

So while they wait for the birds to return
the trees hold tight in the cold
hoping their branches will sprout some green leaves
and attract feathered friends young or old
