I once wrote a piece of found poetry on Imperial War museum North, in Manchester..using a piece from the poet John Rice as my inspiration. Thought I’d share it with you, and hope you enjoy the read.
There’s a mouse in the Museum Kitchen –
Who’s been eating all the cheese
he’s been spotted by the entrance
playing football with the peas
Security can’t find him
it make’s the young ones laugh
for while they check the cubby holes
he’s napping in the caff!
There’s a mouse in the Museum Kitchen –
Who’s been darting round the space
his paw prints for sure, were seen across the floor
and all over the place.
There’s a mouse in the Museum Kitchen –
he’s been sleeping under the tank
but he’s dashed off fast, to his hold steadfast
he doesn’t like noises to be frank
There’s a mouse in the Museum Kitchen
with the Engine – he’s had fun
running over the floor and from door to door
and he’s only just begun
He’s picnicked by the jet plane
and ate by the Estate
And watched the children’s movie show
Before returning his plate
“Yes – i’m the museum kitchen mouse
hope you don’t mind me keeping house
but as I’ve put plates in the sink
i’m heading to the pub now for a drink!”
