A tale of an Apple Turnover

This is a bit of a wonder

Undeniable – the baker is a bit of a marvel

Ripe apples transformed into a take home delight

Nice eaten hot with custard

Or cold with a bit of icecream

Varieties exist – some are spiced and others have sultanas in them

Everyone enjoys them as a breaktime treat –

Rows of delicious pastries leave, as fast as they are baked

#chocolate

They’re the bits of your favourite chocolate bars

that didn’t quite make it past quality control

chocolate covered clumped raisins

meet up with lumps of honeycomb

and those dolly mixtures, that shot past the bag

but didn’t hit the factory floor

producing a chocolate surprise – white or brown

sold in bags in each and every town

no search for perfection here – its sold at cost price

but kids they go for it – it tastes just as nice!

I

The container comes down

from the confectioners shelf and

each little drop of sweetness

spills into the bowl

II

Red and Yellow fancies

dusted with icing sugar

and as you open the bag

a blast of pear

III

Each Individually formed

rocky for a short while

but later smooth on the tongue

but watch for the sharp bits

IV

Thud of each drop

hitting the scale

rattle and then crunch

of the halves coming away

V

Sweet and Sour Sensations

tripping off the tongue

taking you back

to schoolday memories

Usually on birthdays

Delightful cubes of butter sugar and cream

Get sent to the house

Easily a delightful treat

Fairs at Christmas time

usually have stalls selling this

delicious treat, and it’s not just cubes

great shapes are made using cutters

expect strawberry hearts, mint chocolate rounds and raspberry diamonds

Happy Winnie-the-pooh day!

winnie-the-pooh-day

Wednesday 18th January 2017

I’ll be posting another piece from my notebooks later, but I’ve just been informed – c/o my Facebook and Twitter feeds…that it’s Winnie-the-pooh day.

and being an ardent Ursinian (that’s a fan of the Great Bear) – I thought i’d share this as it popped up on my public feed…. Pooh and one of the bees from the honey tree 🙂

Given I’ve been entitled to doing something special for an hour in the day – I might just peruse my big book of Winnie the pooh stories – by AA Milne, and enjoy a little something sweet while i’m reading it…

Have a great day folks!

In response to the prompt

Pour Some Sugar on Me

I remember,

sitting by the oven door

watching the blue flames slowly

cook the fabulous fancies

in their individual tins

Flour, Butter and Sugar combining –

as the smell of desiccated coconut and chocolate

wondering in wisps up the nose

and slowly, the gloopy mix began to rise

and began to solidify

a tea time treat – for after

the shepherds pie and beans.
