Cotton Candy

Crafted from wisps of warm sugar

out of the machine it forms

taking the shape of a cloud

the cloud rises on the warm air

on some occasion, it has to be caught in the

nick of time, before it floats off on its own

Could there be a treat sweeter than this

as the candyman catches the cloud

numbers of children watch as its

delivered on the stick, all

yelling they want one – its such a sweet favorite

Chestnut

#CYW #Chestnut

6th November 2019

Coming from two trees that hold its name

Horse and Sweet varieties exist

Each Autumn kids can be found playing games with conkers

Sweet fare created from the conkers sibling

Tartlets and pies and they’re even used at the Christmas table

Note however – you can’t eat the conker

Unless of course – you happen to be a squirrel

Though its easier if you find one – to plant it for a new tree.

Another foodie poem from inky in response to fandango’s latest one word prompt

Lovingly created by the bakery

A coming together of three flavours

Years of expertise – combining pistachio, lemon, and strawberry

Enveloping them in a creamy butter icing

Rich ? depends what your palette says

Something to eat not quite after

Partaking in the evening meal, – full

Of yummy fruit – or maybe even Chocolate!

Now, its nice to have with Custard

Great Hot (or Cold)

Enjoyed by all after teatime

Brambles

Born on a spikey berry bush

Purple / pink fruit bursting with flavour

bursting with juice – pressed to the touch

cooked down in a pan – to a tasty mush

turned into jelly – a taste to savour

spread over bread – or sometimes toast

kids enjoy the tastes so much

Breakfast time they enjoy them the most

Chocolate Orange

Tap, and Unwrap

That’s how it goes

and a scent of orange

wafts up my nose

Scent – then a taste

of orange from oil

captured in chocolate segments

held in the foil

Dark light and White

Mixes of chocolate and zest

Melt in the mouth zing

A taste that’s the best

Digestive

Definitely something to go with cheese

In a salad, with tomato and cucumber

Goes great in a picnic or lunch box

Even nicer when covered in dark chocolate

Some say, it’s the daddy of all biscuits

To others, the rich tea aficionados

Its a worthy opponent

Versatile whether with a hot drink, or on a meal plate or

Even in a pudding (like on a cheesecake base)

Noodles

Salford, 23rd February 2019

They could be mistaken for spaghetti

but these wiggly worms are made of sterner stuff

egg yellow gives you a clue of their content

clumped together in a group they drop

into steaming water – with a drop of oil

they swim around till they soften

till they’re joined by the meat and the veg –

cooking away in another pan

and then coated in sticky, sweet and savory sauce

ready for serving to all and sundry

Eccles Cakes

Filled to the brim

with wonderful fruit

your average kid ponders

how they can squeeze so much

into something smaller than a scone

Wall to wall raisins

sit side by side

in their sleeping bag

of flaky pastry
