Jam

#Socs #Fridge

Stream of Consciousness Saturday Banner

The seal popped

The jar opened

The flavours released

sweetened fruit held in suspension

spread over hot buttered toast

sensations – smell sight and taste – heightened

Warm strawberry tastes

Wild , sweet and welcoming

Tasted with every bite

The rest of the flavours – locked in the jar

kept in a place with the polar bears

for tomorrows crumpet feast

Piggy Pink

#CYW #Piggypink

Pink Piggy Cakes

Pink piggies like the ones in the farm

on a plate with instant charm

really tasty with their marshmallow noses

krafty icing with a number of poses

perhaps you’d be worried – about poor mr pig

in fact – when i tell you – you might do a jig

news is – i can tell you – that no pigs come to harm

king of his field – is still sat in the farm

Autumn Red Peaches (Image by B.F Kirkham)

Picked from the trees in the hills of Asia

each fruit furry to the touch

and juicy with every bite – just watch out for the stone in the middle

can be eaten on its own, or with custard or cream

hot out of the oven – its wonderful in a pie or a flan

Bring on the puddings!

#FDDA #Sweet #Sponge #Puddings

I do like a sponge pudding

coming to life in the oven

covered in fruity delights

sweet soft pillows of loveliness

and that’s before you get to the custard!

Taste

I

Bitter, Salty, Sweet or Sour

Sensations landing on your tastebuds

What is that wonderful fruity flavour

It’s on the tip of your tongue

but you haven’t said it yet

II

Raspberry Jacket and Banana Shirt

with trousers and shoes to match

maybe it’s the height of fashion in the magazines

certainly makes you talk of the town on the shopping run

III

Country or Town

Suburbia or out in the sticks?

Cottage, Terrace, Mansion or Shed ?

Choice of Home – is down to you

but it’s not everybody’s cup of tea

Melon

#CYW #Melon

Maybe its me – but I always

expected the colour of a melon would be darker than the one

like you find in your box of crayons – its innards more red than pink

of course, buy a honeydew it’s as yellow as the sun

nice sliced up – they’re sweet regardless of which one you choose

Creature in the House

Chocolate munching reptile

having a field day in the house he is!

arriving on a mission – to empty larder cupboards –

munching on oranges, strawberries and lemons

even limes take his sweet tooth to 7th Heaven

Lemon sorbet’s and Chocolate cake can’t

escape his grasp

of course – it would be easier if you can see him – it’s

not that easy when he’s disappeared into the woodwork

Something to look forward to

Salford, 10th June 2020

The preparation seemed endless

the pie dish lined with the finest pastry

rolled out , sugared and buttered

now sat there waiting for the filling

The Smell of Bubbling Bramley apples

merging together with sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon

attracts the local feathered residents

looking longingly past the window glass

dropped into a sweetened parcel

and sealed with a spiced sugared lid

finally toasted together in the oven

served up after the fish and chips

and the perfect accompaniment for it

is spluttering away on a hob

as the smell of fresh vanilla custard

meets with warm apple pie – just the job!

Ode to a fly

#Napowrimo #fly #insect

A fly flew round the mulberry bush

the fly himself got bored

he headed for an open window

and through the air he soared

his little wings a flying

he stopped upon something sweet

he landed on the bowl they were in

and decided to enjoy a treat

but then who should come wondering,

as he came out of the cage

with feathers red blue and green

landing by little flies stage

and the bird had our small friend for dinner

as on the orange he munched

so now say goodbye, to our small friend , the fly

who the birdie has just had for lunch

Cotton Candy

Crafted from wisps of warm sugar

out of the machine it forms

taking the shape of a cloud

the cloud rises on the warm air

on some occasion, it has to be caught in the

nick of time, before it floats off on its own

Could there be a treat sweeter than this

as the candyman catches the cloud

numbers of children watch as its

delivered on the stick, all

yelling they want one – its such a sweet favorite
