A draw of odds and ends

#Napowrimo

11th April 2021

so easy to access,

and then so hard to close

recepticle for things you say you need

the things you say you’ll use one day

and things you can’t throw away

Notepad’s and pencils that have been well chewed

share space with computer drives that’s been acrued

manuals for tech that lives round the house

together with cameras (and occasional mouse)

A couple of shavers long seen light of day

A Tape recorder longing to hear summat play

while resting on papers also kept there in

Documents for stuff – you’ve long shown the bin

but under the manuals – memories galore

those nik-naks you’ve kept from weddings and more

kept under the papers you can’t throw away

pictures and postcards of a happier day

Honeycomb 3

A piece written for National Poetry Month on Allpoetry.com

Sharing it here so, if you like it you can comment!

Hexagonal in form –
overall storage space for
nectar collected by the bee
each space brimming with
yellow sweet liquid gold
chances are
outside in the summer sun – you
might just see a prospector of this yummy stuff
buzzing around the nearest bright flower

Warehouse

Salford (Via Trafford Park), 3rd September 2018

This is the place

where mighty ships cargo

lay resting after its journey

after a long ride on the waves

Men toiled in the heat

as silent shipping crates

moved to the sound of the warehouse mice

avoiding the company cat

Inwards and Out

the orders of the day

some on road – some on rail

having come in from sail

To be changed in an instant

to wear or to eat

grain for the flour mill

or silk for the mayors seat

Changes in time led to changes afoot

as sons and daughters move on in their new fancy boots

dancing away to a shanty or two

like their elders before them – they think that its new!

BASIC Concentration Memory Poetry

Memory

Salford, Tuesday 15th May

Since my last episode with my IV shunt, I’ve become more appreciative of what makes a memory

the smell of cooking of an apple pie in the oven

the sound of my favourite music 🎶 on the wireless

the feel of my iwm fleece, that I wear when volunteering

All these things meet up in the information store in my brain where those clever little neutrons in my head store them for future reference in this vast library 📚 of learning.   There’s two other sections of this library, one holds a giant encyclopaedia of facts……the semantic section, whilst the other contains a multimedia extravaganza, full of music, pictures, film, tv and photographs

now since my shunt was revised, there’s been a bit of a mess in the semantic section, and it’s sister branch the episodic section….which holds memories of events and such.  It’s not that I’ve completely forgotten about certain things, I just have to go back a few pages to remind myself of things

photographs help.  Show me a photo of a place I’d been at and I’d be able to tell you the who the where and when the photo was taken.  It’s probably the reason I’ve taken an interest in using a digital camera, for a visual cue usually triggers a memory of an event

and of course there’s the memory aids – Those colourful notebooks full of my random thoughts and scribbles.  Now i’ve set myself up on wordpress i’ll occasionally share the ramblings of what i’ve picked up in the day, but it always pays to go back to the source – even if it is to source out that chocolate cake recipe i picked up in cooking demos.
