Girl In The Tinted Glasses

Poetry

Salford 11th December 2018

I don’t know what it is with you.

You’re there at the same time, same day

Same Reaction to my appearance on the opposite platform

Gawping like a primary school kid

I’m not an alien – and i’m past caring

what old style clothing you think i’m wearing

attitude of a kid of an age

who isn’t even working for minimum wage

To try and catch my attention,

You flounce and pout

And if stood with your pals

You scream and shout

Maybe you think i’m “The One” for you

Oh if only – that were true

Giggling with your pals – shows you ain’t older

even if your attitude seems any bolder

Perhaps, you think the camera footage

will catch the eye

of an X-Factor Judge at Mediacity

but all your peacocking gets from me – is pity.

Central

a tale of Manchester central, which I knew as G-Mex when I were young (sic)

I

It’s the place

where mighty wheels

rolled over lines of steel

to take you north and south and east

to wonderous places where stress released

II

Slap bang

In the middle of town

The rail network changed – they shut it down

Exciting times lay ahead,

Sport and music from the railways bed

III

Conferences held under railways arch

Entertainment and sport – set among trees of green

Next to connections set up for the place

Travelways and walkways, Roman Wall, Air and Space

Rolling on to Altrincham, Bury and the Quays

And new lines to the home of Man city and the Beeb

Leading to th’ airport and parks and the trees

IV

and just by the tramstop – in the place by the field

the stations old tale is all but revealed

showing the vehicles that stopped at this place

before changes to the line – Piccadilly replaced.

Location : The summit complex, Great Orme country park, Llandudno, North Wales

“If you can find them…and no-one else can help….maybe you can hire – THE A-TEAM”

A fateful but most enjoyable trip to a tall point of North wales

DSC00017.JPG

Enjoy the view – i walked up a very tall hill to get to it 🙂

A bit like the fellow who walked up a hill and came down a mountain 🙂

The funny thing is Me, Bill, Nigel and Joe weren’t even supposed to be here – we headed off from our meeting point at Imperial War Museum North and somehow we missed our junction for the M6 and Buxton (our intended destination).  So we Headed for the M56 North Wales road instead, with all the delights that the country parks of wales could offer.

(I’m smiling about it now…..)

Walking up the Great Orme, led us to the Summit Complex, with Educational facilities, Museum, Hotel and restaurant.  Our reward for reaching the summit ?  A really nice Lunch plate of Fish and Chips in the restaurant.

There was a plaque dedicated to the forces who served at Great Orme when the Cafe was a Royal Air Force Radar Station, defending the nation against Nazi air attack in World war II – All four of us volunteer at Imperial War Museum North in Manchester – so i guess it was fate that we’d eventually end up somewhere with a connection to the armed forces…

Inside the Visitor centre – there was a display of the Great Orme Landscape, its terrain – and the sea birds that reside there.

Guillemots say Hello!

Being indoors in the restaurant – Our Lunches were safe from these regular visitors 🙂
