Herring Gull

Wednesday 15th April 2020

#Napowrimo #Bird #Gull #Salford

He’s sat on the tyres by the part of the dock, where

eager shoppers alight ferries and off do they flock

rotating and hopping around by the gate

revolving ideas of what he’d like on his plate

in dock number 5 he waves wings about

noting the waters that he’ll soon make spout

going after the fish – that come out for some bait

! the ones by the air vent, hopping round by the gate

Seagulls

Salford , 2nd April 2020

Someone is hovering over Salford’s bins

every day they’ve been seen – on spying missions

and some say – they’re worse than the pigeons

gracefully flying through the skies

until the bins on the waterside are

looking full – likelihood is – they’ll chance their

luck – with a lass coming home from the chippy

Seagulls Lament

#Promptuarium

ow

I suppose you thought that was funny ?

here I am sat by the bins

enjoying what could be my only meal for miles

and you decide to disturb my breakfast

Innocently enjoying the fish in the box

then over my foot comes this big heavy rock

expecting me to just fly away

I was too busy eating – no time to play

If I were human – I might have had words

but thing is being feathered – I’m only a bird

you wouldn’t want my beak coming round you to peck

so why use a big stone – I could have broke my neck!

I should count myself lucky – it wasn’t from a gun….

but disturbing my breakfast – wasn’t much fun

so i’ll return the favour – when you come back from the shop

expect something to land – coming down with a plop!

He swam from tropical waters

and landed in our seas

rescued by a trawler

from being a seagulls tea

The boatmen stored him carefully

as they made their way to the dock

a wildlife officer would come on board

at the entrance to the lock

Far too risky to put back in the waters

so they took him to a kind of zoo

“The Sea Life Centre” near Old Trafford

Travelling down the M62

And the keepers they took care of him

and made sure he was watered and fed

as he found a spot in the waters

and headed off to bed

In Flight

Salford 26th August 2017

Seagulls in Flight, Charcoal drawing in Painter by Inky

The aviators are circling again

looking for a suitable place to rest

whilst the sun is high in a northern sky

Gliding from roof to roof

checking out the pickings

in lined up gardens

Unafraid and Unabashed

to businesses back yards they’ll pip

for some chucked out fish (or stray chips)

Or land in someones home back yard

looking in food bins for some fish from a tin

or filleted bones that’s been left there in

A Cat-astrophe

Plop

6th September 2016

The scene Blackpool promenade – a local fish and chip emporium

family of four – Mum,Dad and two boys eating , outside in the summer sun – what else but fish? – haddock and chips

the two lads are asked would they like an ice cream

they say yes – meanwhile in the distance a seagull is watching from a safe distance

One asks for Strawberry the other Vanilla – and the boys wait patiently for their ice creams to be delivered.

The Fish shops cat appears into the Blackpool sunshine,  purring away in the hope for some scraps of fish. She follows the waitress, from just a few paces away, as the seagull makes its move. The seagull swoops in – and is stopped by the cat – just as the waitress delivers the ice creams

Chaos ensues, as the cat and seagull rumble for goodies under poor waitresses feet. The Ice Creams land off target and an odd plate of leftovers lands on the floor

Cue the owner – avec sweeping brush and an assistant with two more ice creams – on the house – Cut to a Cat with the spoils and the Seagull with the scraps.

The Bracelets Lament

bracelet

I don’t like rain

It’s wet and it’s cold

Shining reflective on my marbles and gold

Here I lie, on the sand

with water beneath

The helpless victim of a seaside thief

He grabbed me from my owner

whilst she was playing in the sea

and flew off to his hideout

for a moment or three

But the family of this Avian Con,

got too excited at his find.

Hopping around, in their nest,

with others of their kind

Feathers flew, and claws they scratched

and suddenly I found

I’d been dispatched

Falling from a height, and with great speed

has left me in a bit of a muddle.

But the suns rays, make me quite colourful

as I sit here by this puddle
