Conquered

Outdoor Pursuits, Poetry

6th October 2018

You’ve been trying to climb that hill for a while now

facing off against its challenges

its crags, sharp sides and slippy hand holds

not to mention the wet slate underneath

dark purples your pals as you rose

overcoming every obstacle in your way

take in the rewards at the top

the view of the blue sky – its lovely.

ow

I suppose you thought that was funny ?

here I am sat by the bins

enjoying what could be my only meal for miles

and you decide to disturb my breakfast

Innocently enjoying the fish in the box

then over my foot comes this big heavy rock

expecting me to just fly away

I was too busy eating – no time to play

If I were human – I might have had words

but thing is being feathered – I’m only a bird

you wouldn’t want my beak coming round you to peck

so why use a big stone – I could have broke my neck!

I should count myself lucky – it wasn’t from a gun….

but disturbing my breakfast – wasn’t much fun

so i’ll return the favour – when you come back from the shop

expect something to land – coming down with a plop!

Ascending

Outdoor Pursuits, Outdoors

Climbing

As you head up the hill

Something carries you on

Crevices becoming the perfect hand holds

Engaging with the rock

Noted men before you have attemped this face before – but

Deny you your moment of glory ? not a chance!

In fact – they’ll be all hearing you yelling your achievements

North to south, East to West – as you

Get to the summit top

Rock to Sand

BASIC, Nature, Photography, Poetry

mother nature’s art
created on our island
for everyone’s eye

the rough sands of time
eat slowly away at rock
carving a coastline

aided by the wind
and the foam sea in the west
the sand carves the cliffs

fallen rock is smoothed
by the foam of the sea
and pebbles shimmer

little tiny rocks
gather with the seashells
to create soft sand

and in a moment
time passes as shore grows
as sand in timer moves

Caught in a moment

by time in a rock

To this creature of the deep

it must be a shock

The old sea snail rests

by the sands of the bay

stoic and silent

with nothing to say

It’s given up swimming

in the waters of blue

nested in th’ rock face

with others there too

In its time our dear seasnail

had plenty to say

but its not with its cousins

in the water of the bay

Its encased in the stone

on the shore (known as lime)

that built up in th’past

(or prehistoric time)

But the children on the shore

to the sand dunes they flock

to see sea-snail resting

in its home in the rock
