Hop

#easter

Photo by Olya Kobruseva on Pexels.com

Who’s that hopping in the garden

dropping eggs round the lawn

“I’m celebrating” he tells everyone

“The saviours been reborn”

and so with his very bouncy feet

he’s leaving everyone a treat

in places that are not so sunny

delivering gifts – the easter bunny

Chorus

Cathedral walls filled with voices as

Harmonic music was played throughout

Orators of great note – joined in

Resounding hymns and psalms

Until the time came – and

Silence and Reverence came with eucharistic rites

Reflection of a shared room (school retreat)

Painting from photo : Castlerigg Manor, Keswick (p) Brian F Kirkham 2020

Keswick, 1987

Up in the hills

by a mountain stream

a place of reflection and retreat

the room shared three

with a view of the lakes

a place to ponder, relax and take breaks

colour scheme – calming

a sight of some sheep

and during our breaks we would gambol and leap

Confession

#fowc #Confession

Cleansing of

Oral admissions

Noted by the angels

For the day of judgement

Expressions of remorse

Said in private but always

Said honestly and in receipt of penance

In an attempt to show an element

Of contrition for the time we

Next meet our maker

New Religion

Congregate

The atmosphere is electric

some gathered there would say evangelic

as the lights flicker around the evening sky

like acolytes the security guards wait

for the signal to lower the velvet barriers

countdown progresses

as a one hit wonder presses a golden button

with that actress you know off the daily soap opera

and then the worship begins

as the bells ring out

and the dinero fills the tills

as the worshippers take their communion home

in the form of homeware, electricals or fashion

Belief

Believe

Belief – you’re not born with it

emerges from what you are told from your teachers

like mum and dad, grandmas and granddads

it’s then down to you to weigh up

each little bit you’ve been told

verify and question, and finally

engage – before it grows

Thought

Candle

candle

Sat in solemnity

the light brightens

the dark of midnight

Prayer for a loved one

the young old, the sick, the traveller,

kept in a moment of action

The light travels far

directing the thoughts of those

who’s thinking about their own

And the wax melts

tears of sadness or joy

fall in line down in line

And as the light continues to shine

the sign of the holders

shines out for all to see
