What’s Awesome?

Poetry

#Fowc #Awesome

Salford 4th June 2019

If this reads a bit like a list – It’s not supposed to be!

Rainbow list of all my stuff that makes my life awesome!

Things I’ve done, Places I’ve seen

Being a cog as part of a much larger machine

Taking up writing as self – therapy

Helping out run some great events for free

Colourful Image of Imperial war museum in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester
Imperial war museum , Greater Manchester (with a splash of colour)

Greeting students at the museum door

Laying down tiles of a competition floor

Greek acropolis, Rhodes
Artwork of Greek Acropolis, Rhodes

Rising to heights of an ancient scene

Keeping a log of the places I’ve been

Ludicrous

Acrostic, Poetry

#fowc #ludicrous #acrostic

Looking at it now,

Under the light of day,

Decisions made the night before

Influenced by alcohol of many kinds

Could – by more sober men – seem a little foolish

Raspberry pink shirt, Green jacket and

Orange Trousers ? – what were you thinking ???

Unless the girl you were trying to impress was colourblind

Seems a change of tack is needed – or a new pair of glasses

They said it was cleaner than coal

so the men in charge let them build it

starting off small

but then expanding across the greenbelt

the men at the power grid – overjoyed

as coal took a back seat to cleaner energy

the money rolled in

but nobody noticed – the barrels building up

toxic legacy hidden behind trees

till a concrete tomb was dug down below

and the barrels that ticked and clicked

found a new home below till solutions were found.

Double

Chocolate, Food, Sweets

#FOWC #Double

a sweet tasting response from inky to fandango’s latest one word challenge

Not your normal after dinner treat

it’s got two of everything, vanilla scoops, chocolate scoops, brownies, the lot

covered in drizzles of sweet chocolate syrup

even the wafer’s got a dash of cocoa running through it

pudding – a nice light one after that large dinner

unless you really fancy jam roly poly, swimming in custard

decisions , decisions

Battle

Poetry

#Fowc #Battle

There’s always fighting somewhere….

Land, Places

Resources, Religion

All led by crackpot ideas and beliefs

Of course, the one’s leading the charge

Disappear off to the back of the crowd

While his (or her) men are fighting it out

Leaving them chance – to act all statesmanlike

at a memorial of stone

with names engraved – of those fallen

Millionare’s Shortbread

Food, Sweets

4th May 2019

funny what I can come up with, when I’m peckish

Sandwiched together
hot off the confectioners table
oblong biscuits of loveliness
rippled with caramel and chocolate
taken usually with a nice cup of tea
crafted by an artisan
and served up as part of an afternoon lunch
keeping watch, children with a sweet tooth
expecting a piece of this dessert after the sandwiches

The Race

Birds, Poetry

T

They’ve waited around
practicing their manoeuvres
up and down the canal side
mastering approaches

Eyes focused
for a signal
and a time
and a place of green

Spring afternoon
perfect conditions
for old friends
to compete against each other

Superstar sportsmen
can only sit and watch
as gladiatorial battles take place
on the terracotta tiles

Spectators look on
from vaulted vantage points
up high and looking down
on the contest below

As they take their positions
and wait for the starter
spreading the breadcrumbs
across the walkway

On Patrol

Animals, Birds, Poetry

The black feathered aviators are out on patrol again

You could call them “The flying squad”

Keeping the streets of Salford Quays

free from the menace of breadcrumbs

as they clean a square metre in five minutes flat

passing professors doing their sums

and staring as if to say – “What’re you lookin’ at ?”

while seagulls know not to pounce or enter a fight

with the flying squad – they’ll get a fright
