Creature in the House

#Animal #Acrostic #Poetry #Writeclub

Salford, 15th June 2020

Chocolate munching reptile

having a field day in the house he is!

arriving on a mission – to empty larder cupboards –

munching on oranges, strawberries and lemons

even limes take his sweet tooth to 7th Heaven

Lemon sorbet’s and Chocolate cake can’t

escape his grasp

of course – it would be easier if you can see him – it’s

not that easy when he’s disappeared into the woodwork

Ode to a fly

#Napowrimo #fly #insect

A fly flew round the mulberry bush

the fly himself got bored

he headed for an open window

and through the air he soared

his little wings a flying

he stopped upon something sweet

he landed on the bowl they were in

and decided to enjoy a treat

but then who should come wondering,

as he came out of the cage

with feathers red blue and green

landing by little flies stage

and the bird had our small friend for dinner

as on the orange he munched

so now say goodbye, to our small friend , the fly

who the birdie has just had for lunch

Christmas

Scrooge

#SoCS #Scrooge

So looking back, How was your Christmas ?

Counting the savings from making the kids wait till Boxing day for their treat

Roast Chicken and less vegetables than usual

Of course, you can defend yourself by saying you’re “Economical” – but

Oranges are meant to be eaten, they’re not just a table decoration.

Got to admit, the mittens you wrapped up might be useful but

Expectation well exceeded reality

Conjure

Conjure

Crafting a dessert, is a bit of a magic trick

Oranges sliced and pineapples diced get laid in a dish, and

Next comes the syrup and then the batter, before the dish is covered in foil

Just before the dish is put in the oven – four holes are made to let out steam

Until its time – for it to be turned upside down and

Royally presented to all sat at the table

Excited little ones ask – can i have custard with mine ?

Savor

Fruit.jpg

The Oranges sliced, sing on the plate…
they’ve been quite lonely as of late
all alone in their bowl of blue
looking quite bright – but with nothing to do

Now with apples, diced they share
bowls that cooks of note prepare
with other fruit from orchards near
and strawberries grown in the fields each year

In places, you may find some peaches or pears
(depending on what chef has prepared)
mixed up lightly so the fruit is served loose,
served up in its own syrup or juice.

Served up from a place that is quite cold,
so they stay fresh and don’t go old.
A lunchtime, brunch, or evening treat
that any child would love to eat.

And served up wi’ th’ fruit to make children’s dream
is a serving of custard, or better – ice cream!
All served up in a coloured round bowl
An empty dish is the little child’s goal.

Green-Yellow

#Coloryourworld #CYW #Green-Yellow

The painter mixed up his colours

a little too much in the mixing palette

as the citrus in the bowl

seemed confused in the final act…

Those bananas look like they’ve been picked too early

and are those lemons or limes ?

a confusing picture from the artist

to which watching you’ll spend some time

But the green – yellow colouring is perfect

to the greengrocer picking the fruit

he’s picked fruit under ripe – so there’s no room to gripe

while you wait for the colour to take root.

Fruity Rainbow

Roy G. Biv

In response to the Roy.G.Biv Challenge on the Daily Post.

2014-07_Santaniello-fruit-scenes-rainbow[1]

I’ve seen rainbows in the sky, but they’ve never been as vibrant as the ones in the Greengrocers shop window

Rich Red Strawberries – it amazes me how he can get them even in Winter, but they’re tasty with sugar and cream.

Oranges – I’ll eat these till they come out of my ears, but a zesty orange sets me up for the day.

Yellow Lemons – perfect for Lemon Dishes (of course) and an accompaniment for any cocktail drink.

Green Limes – the Lemons cousin, this is nice either in a Drink or a flavouring in a sponge cake – Like the Lemon, it needs a little sugar to cut through the sharpness

Blackcurrants – wonderful flavour – works marvels in a local drink with raspberries and grapes round my neck of the woods (Manchester, UK) – Vimto

Indigo – actually the colour of “RED” Grapes – nice in a fruit salad

and last but not least Violet – the colour of Damsons – which when in a jam turns rice pudding a lovely purple colour.
