Retreat

#WDYS

A perfect getaway

set in trees and mountains

a place to get away from it all

take in the mountain air

and catch a fish or two

then perhaps after you’ve ate

you dip your toes in the waters blue

Near and Far

How Near to where i am would i want to go ?

The Local Park Perhaps ?

The Local Art Gallery ?

Off to the Lakes perhaps?

Or a remote sandy beach, someplace sunny and warm?

Descent into the Mist

#MLMM

Photo credit: Luca Nardone on Pexels.com.

They had had their fun

carving tracks down hill

it was time to return – that was then until

the skiers had noticed

they were there on their own

even though the chairlift

was filled up till it groaned

had their sports pals decided to down some more grog ?

or was something below them hiding in the fog ?

there wasn’t a signal on the top of that hill

so they sat on the benches, and waited until

the dense, hungry fog – decided to clear

and the horror of what happened to their pals did appear

Idyllic

#Fowc #Idyllic

It’s some people’s idea of paradise

your place away from the hustle and bustle of

days in the mighty metropolis

lakeland water set among peaceful hills

likelihood is though – everyone else has descended there too! 🙂

Reflection of a shared room (school retreat)

Painting from photo : Castlerigg Manor, Keswick (p) Brian F Kirkham 2020

Keswick, 1987

Up in the hills

by a mountain stream

a place of reflection and retreat

the room shared three

with a view of the lakes

a place to ponder, relax and take breaks

colour scheme – calming

a sight of some sheep

and during our breaks we would gambol and leap

Takeover

Goats taking over llandudno (print by inky from original photo by A.Stuart)

Salford (Via Llandudno) , 31st March 2020

A tale of Goats in the welsh town of Llandudno, written by inky,

inspired by an ITV News article :

The Goats are taking over

and they’re heading into town

they’re happy to play, no-one to chase them away

for their shepherd’s gone to ground

The cars have abandoned the tarmac

so they’re running down the road

chomping on box wood and flowers

in their new abode

The goats are taking over

whilst the people are indoors

they’re coming down from the mountains

the pastures and the moors

The humans are all in their houses

so the goats have left hills for their tea

munching on grasses and heather around

as happy as can be on the ground

many a sailor or perhaps

a buccaneer has used one of these in

pursuit of treasure

many you will find,

as a guide for potential explorers

putting their feet across peak district peat bogs

most are a guide for weary travellers

ambling across the uk road network

perhaps they could have taken the train ?

Sat by the platform

it waits for the sign as

gentlemen and ladies alike

now make their way to their furnished cabins

a wonderful journey to places wonderful

lakes mountains and streams – but they have to wait for the flag

Conquered

#OctPoWriMo

6th October 2018

You’ve been trying to climb that hill for a while now

facing off against its challenges

its crags, sharp sides and slippy hand holds

not to mention the wet slate underneath

dark purples your pals as you rose

overcoming every obstacle in your way

take in the rewards at the top

the view of the blue sky – its lovely.

Purple Mountains

Derwentwater, Keswick,  Lake district, UK

There’s something almost magical

about the Lake water here at sunset

I don’t know myself – what it might be

but as the sun pops down behind trees

the hills and the water take on a purple like hue

bring out colours of heathers that’s grew

up on the hillsides where the flocks of herdwick sheep

are resting till morning, quite sound asleep
