Conquered

Outdoor Pursuits, Poetry

6th October 2018

You’ve been trying to climb that hill for a while now

facing off against its challenges

its crags, sharp sides and slippy hand holds

not to mention the wet slate underneath

dark purples your pals as you rose

overcoming every obstacle in your way

take in the rewards at the top

the view of the blue sky – its lovely.

Derwentwater, Keswick,  Lake district, UK

There’s something almost magical

about the Lake water here at sunset

I don’t know myself – what it might be

but as the sun pops down behind trees

the hills and the water take on a purple like hue

bring out colours of heathers that’s grew

up on the hillsides where the flocks of herdwick sheep

are resting till morning, quite sound asleep

Second Thoughts

it seemed like such a good idea at the time

fuelled by bravado , and a third bottle of champagne

but as you were strapped into your harness

the doubts began to amass

but the time for self-doubt has now gone

you never know – it might be fun

as you head off the basalt ledge

and traverse down the mountains edge

Borders

Acrostic, Nature, Outdoors

in response to
Border

Borders can be defined in many ways.

On your standard map they are hard ridges that define a country, state, city, town or village.

Round my neck of the woods, they’re defined by Hillsides, Mountains, lakes and Forests.

Depending on where you live, you can cross a number of borders within an hour

Even more if you travel by train or by plane

Reality is – you wont know if you meet a border till you get to a crossing.
