Underground

#SoCs #Cave #Underground

Speedwell Cavern, Derbyshire – Image created by inky, from image on google.

I’ve never been a pirate

or had thoughts of being a caveman

but someone before me thought

it would be great to trade

minerals or metals – they found in their home

for some meat, or berries or something else

the shiniest stones cost the buyer more fruit

as the seller spent days polishing them

by the light of his twinkling stones

Trash

#fowc #trash

The amount of

Rubbish heading for

An underground site is (believe it or not)

Shrinking day by day – thanks to

Helpful bin collectors

They’ve separated the paper, plastic and glass

Recycling them into new materials

And Stainless Steel and Aluminium is

Separated out before being melted down and

Headed back to the factory for turning into new items

Copper

Copper Kettle

Could this element

Out of all of those

Perched on the Periodic Table, be the most useful ?

Pink orange in colour – the metal gives the colour a name

Expect to see pans and pots, formed from it

Resident in kitchens up and down the land

Octpowrimo – Day 22 – Broken pieces

#Octpowrimo #Brokenpieces

Imperial War Museum North, Manchester UK (via the Inkwell), 22nd October 2019

How does someone express the act of war ?

take you through a hundred years

and tell that tale – that no one else can tell anymore.

The man with a vision

took a thing for brewing his cuppa

and changed it into something – iconic

Smashed with a hammer

Earth air and water

came together and reformed

Falling at the side of a waterway

painted by a painter

who’s centre stood next door

And in the evening sunlight

the air shard shone as shimmering light

cascaded off its solid steel

Morning beckons

and the tales from the shards

can be heard across town

from the tales within.

Recycling

Salford, 14th August 2019

Someone at the depot, didn’t really

Enjoy the manual extraction of

Paper , Metal , Plastics and Glass

As they passed him by on the conveyor belt

Reaction ? swift as bright coloured cousins joined the usual receptacle

And Markets created to conjure household rubbish by the

Tonne, into something much more pleasing to the

Eye, as yesterdays news transformed into blank new canvas

Brassy

Brassy

Bronze it may not be, but it can bang out a tune

Resonating a sound that travels up and down the land

As great winds travel through moulded instruments

Some would call it a bit of a live wire with its sound, but

Spark like some other metals ? its remote.

You’ll see its yellow tones on railways and industrial sites for that very reason

Silver

Some say they prefer it to Gold

it’s the way the

light falls on it you see

venerated by wise men and pirates alike

everyone knows – this precious metal – is secure in its place

revered by every smith that works it and every miner that hews it from the ground

Antique brass

At times you could mistake it for gold

with it’s off yellow patina

Decorating houses 🏡 with things from time gone by

But it’s much more valuable than that

To each wooden door 🚪 its castings and shapes

Bring a smile to those who are greeted by it

As younger successors buckle bridles and shoes

And animals awake their owners

As they knock on front doors around the land

Copper

Colour of a metal,

elementally – you’re not precious, but vital nonetheless

some would call you pink in colour

whilst others – nearer orange after time

collected by kids in schooldays attire

used by workmen in piping and wire

seen around , up and down

every house in the land

transporting utilities as vessels

from their works to home

Look up (to the sky)

Look Up

SAM_0664.JPG

Detroit Bridge, Erie Basin, Salford Quays

My entry for the “Look up” Photo Challenge

Picked it for the Red, White and Blue of the Steels in the bridge – as well as that wonderful blue you get of a Salford City Morning.

Could call it a little abstract on my part – but I like the way it makes shapes out of the morning sky.
