Kick off

Old Trafford, Manchester, 14th August 2021

Old Trafford – Manchester Utd

They’d been preparing for this for weeks

Olympics – a mere distraction

to what lay ahead

The match – early saturday

the vendors – out with their home made goods – were there on Friday

the banner stretched across the entrance gate window

a statement of intent

red carpet laid out for the opposition fans

hoping they’d enjoy the spectacle – if not the scoreline

Fulfilling a dream

Theatre of Dreams, Old Trafford

A reminiscence

Watching my first football game

Enchantment on Boxing Day

Seeing young charges, trying to

Outdo the achievements of players and Heroes past

Moving towards the opposition net and

Enjoying the home team score a goal

Anticipate

10th February 2019

#Football

To readers the other side of the big pond – a poem about football or what you call soccer – Inky

While the greats are revered in Bronze

New idols are to be cheered on by the fans

At both ends of the East Lancashire Road

Fans follow every kick , head every ball

Cajoling the ball past the opposition

and bending the ball to safety

Who was it who said

“You never win anything with Kids” ?

The veteran of the Liverpool Side

should have seen it coming

for there’s young lads from Liverpool and Manchester

now tearing down the green grass
