Juicy

Juicy

A lemon, sliced – at Food for thought, BASIC, Salford – B.F Kirkham 2017

The humble lemon,

like its siblings the orange and lime

each segment is full of cells just

bursting with juice

as the fruit knife cuts through the peel to the zesty core

each cell in its way bursts – releasing

fresh lemon zest into the air

while drops of lemon fall onto fresh marble

Electric lime

Zingy little fruit,

full of zest and flavor

and powerful punch

perfect , placed in a jelly

sparky flavours contained in

a porcelain mould

Sparks of delight

pop off on the tongue

and your luminosity

Green for go ! your sign

the party power switches

are all turned on

light beams travel cross the water 💦

as bright yellow lemons 🍋

release their wonderful flavour

through the corporation pop

in the tumbler

each drop 💧 releasing

the fresh flavour of summer.

perfect with the blue sky on green grass

Mango Tango

Maybe it was love at first sight

As the juice bar music 🎶 played on

A mango entered into a dance 💃

with a fruity little thing

a distant cousin of the orange 🍊

A whirlwind romance

creating something colourful fresh and zesty

in mister baristas mixing machine

Orange

#Coloryourworld #cyw #Orange

Orange 🍊

an acrostic poem by brian f kirkham, for the color your world 🌎 challenge

Fruitbowl

Overall, you’re a zesty little fruit

Ripened by the warm rays of the morning sun

At the point you’re ready, to come off the tree

Numbers of pickers come along – to protect you from falling

Great at breakfast time in a fruit salad, but just as good

Eaten at lunchtime as a healthy pudding.

Lemonade

Written for National Poetry Month – A Tale of Lemons and Lemonade

If life gives you lemons
make lemonade,

Yellow like sunshine
sharp but – somehow sweet

An acid taste
brought down by sugar

A tale of life embodied
in a single fruit

Grown in a sun drenched orchard
on trees with waxy leaves

You started green – but soon grew
as you lost your pigment blue

and squashed in a press
you gave up your juice
and entering fizz
let your flavours loose

each drop enough

to quench the driest of thirsts

Sign of summer – embodied
in every colourful sun drenched bubble
