Skulls (Image:KL Caley)

The box simply read “unknown”

Bits of various dug up bone

Parts of the prehistoric puzzle

that didn’t match up with

triceratops or stegosaurus’s jigsaw

samples taken – no definitive answer

so they took a rest – in cotton wool

while the t-rex and others sat under starlight

questions remained

as professors hunted for clues

but where would they start – and what would they do

was this a relative of a creature running free?

or parts of a dinosaur – a T-Rex had for Tea?

Joy

Jump for joy

Its that day, the one where you

Get to finally finish that puzzle

Some say the picture was too complex but

As you took your time

Wait was finally worth it – as the final piece went in

Where do the lost things go?

#writeclub #lostitems

I’m sure there’s a spot in the house they go

these objects that move without life to and fro

Now wallets and keys – don’t have legs – so i’m told

so they must have wings – an idea i’ve been sold

Allen keys switching spots with their brother

moving from one place to another

Door keys moving from their usual place

Floating through air , dancing with grace

playing with the other stuff that does disappear

and then landing in a new spot with no fear

Piggybanks trotting away in the night

taking the pennies – that shine in moonlight

and re-appearing in the house – with complete glee

underneath a potplant or bonsai tree

but then they’ll trot off – on another little wonder

and you’ll be searching again where’ve they gone ? you will ponder…..

trotting back up the hallway stairs

and having conversations with some old teddy bears

Too Many Bones – Too

#writeclub #Dinosaur #Toomanybones

The Professors and the Doctors

shook their heads

as they watched the students

with their problem

They had been on the dig

for a number of weeks

measuring bones and

giving them tweaks

And putting them together

leg “a” to foot ‘b”

to show off their theories

as part of their degree

But now there’s a problem

in the jewel – there’s some grit

at least one of the bones

in the skeleton doesn’t fit

so they’ve put all the bones

that don’t fit in a pile

this second skeleton –

just might take a while

Grin and Bear it

Manchester Museum, 1st March 2021

It’s not easy being king of the dinos

you’re buried under the land

for what seems like ages

and kept away from the sun

so you take a bit of a nap

all of a sudden, something with teeth like yours

is uncovering you, in the cold

and they’re using your bones like a jigsaw puzzle

all put together in a grand place of learning

the other dinos around in the space dont say very much

but the descendants of the cavemen are all pointing their magic boxes at you

so you pose and you smile at the little uns below

as you give them a grin

Hard as nails

#SoCs #Nails

Raptor jet (Airfix) Built and photographed by inky

The pieces of the plane

snapped together quite remarkably

from propeller to wing to cockpit

it’s parts have kept together

locked in tight – no need for a hammer or nails

superglue ? redundant

it would take some serious force

for it (or any of it’s fellow squadron)

to lose their wings

though there is a case

gravity may play a hand

There’s a reason why they put this label on boxes

Of course, you know why this is – so that when you open it

Pieces of the puzzle (the table you bought) – don’t get lost

Picture in Pieces (p + c – inkdrop)

Satellite imagery is wonderful technology

Landing pictures on our telly screens from far far away

Interference from Meteors, Asteroids (or even a Martian or two)

Can make the snap from the satellite look not as

Exact as you would have expected it

Directors playing jigsaw puzzles before putting it on screen

Broken

Broken

the elaborate jigsaw

lies strewn on the floor

of the coffee house

jagged shards of porcelain

cast out in a circular pattern

across the marble floor

perhaps the barista

should have taken note

of the temperature of

the coffee machine

Fragile

Fragile

For years now, people have been

ranting over the amount of packaging an item is wrapped in.

a thing they need to consider is where it’s

going to. There’s a lot of movement in a delivery van, and

if the owners don’t want their precious vases turned into a jigsaw puzzle

lifting the cargo will take a little bit of t.l,c.

equally, it will remind the removals team not to use them as a rugby ball
