Wild Blackberry

Salford, 21st June 2020

flown in over field and dale

landed among the town’s bracken and bush

entangled in some weird hug with the original bush

where expert eyes, pick up the most sumptuous berries

inspected, and sent off to the kitchen – spending time

next to the sugar and pectin – for creating a tasty jam

Biscuit

Salford, 3rd June 2020

Baked – like a cake – but for longer

it’s middle depends on it’s flavour

sometimes it’s jam if its a dodger

creamy flavoured middle if custard or bourbon

usually eaten with a beverage, like tea or coffee

incredible range down the biscuit aisle

taken and dunked, regularly, around afternoon tea

Dough

#fowc #Dough

Down in a corner of the kitchen

Over by the bread bin and

Under a tea towel

Great things are happening – the bread’s beginning to prove

Hot ovens await, and butter and jam soon after

Jazzberry Jam

#CYW #Jazzberryjam

Jump and jive

as the berries do their thing

zipping around

zestily with the sugar

becoming an exceptional spread

expect to find in jam butties up and down the land

revelling in the same place as the

raspberries and strawberries – tween two pieces of bread

yipping and zipping a taste around as you eat

Breakfast

Salford, 7th April 2020

#Food #Morning #Breakfast #Napowrimo

A prompt from Writerswrite.co.za – cheers to the promptuarium for providing the list of prompts

Best meal of the day, some people call it….

Ripe tasty bananas slapped between two pieces of buttered bread, or

Egg, boiled and salted, and served up with bread soldiers

A hearty breakfast – they say, is fit for a

King….Bacon, Eggs, sausage, tomatoes….

French toast is an alternative if you don’t like chasing your food

As are cereals….but don’t forget toast and

Strawberry jam….its a crowd pleaser

That’ll please any fussy eater (or cheese if they don’t like the sweet stuff)

Toast

Triangular wonder

cooked by the heat of a thousand suns

in a silver toaster

warming and turning

soft white (or maybe brown) bread

golden and toasty

Yellow butter melts

as it lands on the surface

sinking slowly at the sound of the pop

of a jar opening and the imminent arrival

of the strawberry jam.

Sponge

#Fruit #Sponge #Custard #Pudding

Something to eat not quite after

Partaking in the evening meal, – full

Of yummy fruit – or maybe even Chocolate!

Now, its nice to have with Custard

Great Hot (or Cold)

Enjoyed by all after teatime

Battenburg

Built like

a sponge colossus

to many – a

teatime snack to

enjoy just after your chops and vegetables

now how much you have is down to you

but then again – its a question of how much sponge

unless of course, you don’t like Marzipan

reactions to this cake – understandable

“great!  can we have one more slice please ?”

Snack time

Bite

lunch was two hours ago

and dinner is hours away

the hunger pangs are out of the cage

And they’ve begun to play

So over to the brown bread you go

And forage for a filling or two

When the jars of peanut butter and jam

Located above tonight’s spiced ham

Decide to greet you hello

Just the thing till dad makes tea

And summmat that you’ll eat with glee

Out in the garden without delay

Before running around the garden to play

Honk

15/11/2017, Salford

Wail like a graceful swan dear driver

it doesn’t matter – everyone around you is looking

to others – its like the circus is in town

the only things missing are your make up and

evaporating sense of humour

reacting to traffic was never your strong point – and its showing
