Can

Salford, 14th November 2019

#fowc #can

The subject of the piece : A Can

Container – made of

Aluminium – containing something

Nice, Fruity and Fizzy

Cornucopia of flavours held back by

A steel ring pull

Now Chillin’ in a cool space

Could be a surprise upon opening

A release of the fizz under pressure

Nobody knowing what happens next – take cover!

Bottle

Bottle

Behind every cordial known to kids

On the Supermarket shelf

The humble glass bottle – A marvel of invention

Take it off the shelf – consume the fruity contents – and return as soon as possible

Lots of kids lined up outside the newsagents

Expecting a shiny silver coin for “Takin’ the bockles back”

Lemonade

Written for National Poetry Month – A Tale of Lemons and Lemonade

If life gives you lemons
make lemonade,

Yellow like sunshine
sharp but – somehow sweet

An acid taste
brought down by sugar

A tale of life embodied
in a single fruit

Grown in a sun drenched orchard
on trees with waxy leaves

You started green – but soon grew
as you lost your pigment blue

and squashed in a press
you gave up your juice
and entering fizz
let your flavours loose

each drop enough

to quench the driest of thirsts

Sign of summer – embodied
in every colourful sun drenched bubble
