Assignment

#FFFC #Room #Camera #Press #Photo #Assignment

Sat upstairs in their hotel room since breakfast

They’re waiting for their target

In pursuit of a picture for the morning paper

Note : they’ve come prepared – camera’s armed and ready

Gloriously luxurious gown for her, suit tie and tails for him

Mirror Man

#FFFC #Mirror #Man

Manchester, 7th October 2019

A tale of a street performer, inspired by Fandango’s Picture in the Flash Fiction Challenge

He Stands on his spot,

on the grass in the square,

doing his thing

while the others stare.

Today it is sunny,

so today – there’s a crowd

with his occasional movement

they cheer out loud

Sometimes a bird might land on his head

hoping for the chance that they might be fed

So inside his pocket – should there be a need

he has a small bag, of bird food or seeds

Little girl passing, trying to be brave

mirror man turns and gives her a wave

and watches others, as he gives them the time

in amusing but wordless performance in mime.

Abandoned factory (Image:Michael Gaida at Pixabay.com)

#FFFC

The humans moved out of this place
They used to make things here
Things that moved
Things that travelled

A few returned,
leaving their mark
Adding a spot of colour
to desolate walls

Mother nature spotted
the empty space
and send out a message
via the western wind

Soon up in the girders,
feathered builders of craft,
making homes in foundations
in steels for and aft

They said it was cleaner than coal

so the men in charge let them build it

starting off small

but then expanding across the greenbelt

the men at the power grid – overjoyed

as coal took a back seat to cleaner energy

the money rolled in

but nobody noticed – the barrels building up

toxic legacy hidden behind trees

till a concrete tomb was dug down below

and the barrels that ticked and clicked

found a new home below till solutions were found.

Held in Time

#FFFC #Time #Beauty

Looking in the mirror

I count the creases

in this once youthful face

Time is a fickle friend

Where is that younger me ?

The one with hopes and dreams

And yet, when we meet

it seems time stands still

for the girl of fifteen

Essence of Youth ?

from the sea of time

or frozen in a moment ?

And the one thing that gets me

as the seconds move on

Your beauty hasn’t changed

Verbatim

#FFFC

Verbally repeating something, word for word

Everybody is supposed to do it

Reality is by the time the message gets

Back to the person its supposed to get to

A key element has changed

The message too – hasn’t gone out the way it should

In fact – the receiver of the Chinese whisper has to find you to confirm it

Maybe – its best – to write it down ?

Abandoned (Derelict)

#FFFC #Abandoned #Derelict #Brokenwindows

with thanks to Aron Jäger@unsplash.com for providing the Image

I remember the weeks before the builders moved in

the children, were now learning – in bright shiny blocks

up the road in the next district

whilst the old building sat – a nest for the birds

and a target for vagabonds with little on their minds

smashed glass and vibrant graffiti the order of the day

as the old iron gates sat rusting

waiting for the wrecking balls to arrive
