Wintery Christmas Baubles

Just the colour for Christmas celebrations

icy blue to match conditions outside

note – this colour also has something akin with a festive feathered friend

going about their business – landing on tree, grass roof and fence

living in a nearby nest, tending to the young uns

except – you won’t see them this celebration, maybe next.

I

At one end of the spectrum

warm and inviting, and sometimes hot

when looked at in places

warnings about

when you have to be aware

II

Rich ripe fruit

signal to the gardener

I’m ready to be picked

making their way

into pastries and puddings

or in some cases salads soups and stews

III

Hardly Missed

the first of the primaries

sticking out in the crowd

you couldn’t miss them

highlighting emotion

or even mistakes

IV

Moving at speed

Hard to miss

as it moves through traffic

to save a life

V

Jolly Man with a white beard

sends festive greetings to one and all

with gifts left under the decorated tree

to be opened on the morning

now, have you been naughty or nice ?

Christmas Lights

Bauble Ornament in a real Christmas tree

Coming out each year

Happily brightening up the festive tree

Red and Blue Baubles lit up by the fairy lights

Its what makes the glitter twinkle you know

Soon , the children will be

Taking a look underneath the tree. but for now they’re

Making a moment of the decorations

And watching the lights bounce around the branches

Santa’s not going to miss this festive delight, that makes everybody smile

Bubble and Squeak

#fowc #food #christmas #leftovers

Salford, 26th December 2019

By the time the pans were in the sink

undertakings of the Christmas leftovers were being sorted out

bird of the day stripped down to its carcass and

boxed up – and placed in the refridgerator

like the vegetables left behind from the feast

everyone knew what was for tomorrows dinner

Sizzle – went the pan – as meat and vegetables combined

quickly in motion with the aid of a bit of oil and butter

unlike the meal before it – this had a flavour all of its own

encompassing all its ingredients and perhaps one or two more

as the smell of the concoction – drifted on the cold winter air – leaving the

kitchen and wafting under the noses of everyone nearby

Post Christmas Pressies

#Christmas #Hidden #Sweets

7th January 2019

I received an extra present yesterday.

I’d been wandering what dad was going on about when he mentioned an extra present at the end of Christmas time

I’d enjoyed seeing the brightly coloured baubles on the Christmas tree, especially the new larger ones. They were twinkly inside. I just guessed they were part of the decoration

Time came and each of the baubles came off the branches of the tree

and Dad told me of his secret….The twinkly baubles actually contained SWEETS. The foil wrapping reflected the lights off the tree

and in one of the big round baubles , all coloured red was my special surprise – a bag of vanilla fudge.

Stop press….it’s not just my dear old dad hiding stuff in baubles. My provider of hot chocolate has been at it too…delivered on 7th January. so now there’s another metal bauble for the Christmas tree.

Tangerine Days

Tangerines –

always hang about after twelfth night

notice their smell –

generally piercing through the aroma of new years day dinner

everybody – enjoys one while they wait for the

roasted duck , pork or chicken to come out of the oven

in fact – the break from the chocolate will bring a smile

no one will bemoan you eating this festive fruit

everyone approves – its good for you!

The Garden Christmas Tree

All dressed up, and nowhere to go
a tall high fern sits gathering the snow
collecting white stuff from branch to root
as flakes cover all things that are under foot

He’s had a haircut since last year
when he gave children some Christmas cheer
Birds are away, having flown west
So up in the tree he’s having a guest

A squirrel up high – is sleeping round snow
and under the leaves – a mouse is a go
collecting some goodies before he’s asleep
in his winter house a few twigs depth deep

And lights around tree – do cheer and inspire
those wassailers visiting houses in Christmas choirs
but best thing of all – the thing all enjoy
is the smile for the tree from the young girls and boys

Its not this time of year until….

It’s Not This Time of Year Without…

1. Festive lights on Trees outside every shopping centre in sight

Evidence for the defence….

This is the Entrance of the Lowry outlet mall in Salford (Look it up guys, it’s my hometown. Situated next to Manchester – who like to get developers to subvert their name onto every other city / town in the Metropolitan Area)

2. Every large store has some sort of “Winter” Sale

This one is a biggie…as I write there’s five more days of NOVEMBER folks.  By the time we get to the week of Christmas itself – There’s going to be one hell of an Anti-climax.

3. Christmas Markets

I Actually like Christmas Markets…why we have to have them in November Heaven only knows, it still raised a smile seeing the Traditional stalls being set up in the streets (Haven’t opened yet – so there may be an image here later 🙂 )

4. There’s  Food you normally don’t buy in the rest of the year

As well as the usual Meat and Veg you see around this season, the nature of what is available is astounding.   Satsumas, Cranberries and all sorts of Flavourings – and that’s just for the stuffing.  You get all this in….and most of it (particularly those flavourings you sprinkle over the roasts to make them “especially crispy”) is still there two weeks after twelfth night.

One Good thing – Mince pies and Christmas Pudding…(though you can get plum pudding in the shops after Christmas day

5.  The Mad Rush

Today (Friday) was believe it or Not – Black Friday – where the world and his wife went bonkers looking for “Unbelievable” bargains.  I avoided Manchester city centre like a dose of the plague.  But I too, used to run around before 24th December in a mad rush to get the present everybody wanted…even if that meant I received three Christmas jumpers in return…This year – i’m pacing myself…running round causes too much stress…and we don’t need that now do we?

I’m just going to take it easy, pick out the stuff from my list of pressies i’m sending to santa and enjoy the rest of the holidays
