Manchester 23rd August

landed from some far away land

far from out in space

he wanted to experience life at a different sort of pace

he landed at the airport

created a kind of scene

they hadn’t seen someone at customs

quite that kind of green

after getting past the customs

he went off to the hills

experiencing the climbing

the wind the air the chills

and when he’d seen all that

he headed for the beach

and stuck his feet with all twelve toes

in the cool waters he could reach

drying off in a deckchair

having enjoyed his dips

he watched the waves roll into shore

with a box of fish and chips

Who needs evian ?

Coming live from the finest aquifers

rolling and travelling through rivers and streams

filtered through Mountains, Limestone and granite

and stored in great lakes and reservoirs

the purest and freshest water

and its coming direct to the tap

Hike

Hike

An original piece of poetry by yours truly, It originally appeared on the Pages of Allpoetry.com but i’ve added a few lines and decided to share the new copy with the wordpressors – Hope you like it

His multi layered coat
is on his back
kinder scout area….
can expect an attack

He’s been planning this trek
out to the Peaks and his
movement theirin for about
eight weeks

His bag is packed,
his lunch – made up
thermos and map
and his favourite cup

Warm woollen socks
(to keep out the cold)
Thermal Fleece
(more precious than gold)

Wallet and Keys –
In a very safe place
and Binoculars –
to observe the wide space

Penknife to pull out occasional stones
Notepad  to record thoughts, drawings and tones
Money in wallet for the Bus and his tea
and watch , so he’s back for his dinner early

Small First aid kit – in case of mishap
(he hopes wont happen – to this happy chap)
Doesn’t need a car, a boat or a bike
Just a strong pair of boots
He’s off on a Hike

Purple Mountains

Pmm

#coloryourworld #cyw #purplemountainsmajesty

Derwentwater, Keswick,  Lake district, UK

There’s something almost magical

about the Lake water here at sunset

I don’t know myself – what it might be

but as the sun pops down behind trees

the hills and the water take on a purple like hue

bring out colours of heathers that’s grew

up on the hillsides where the flocks of herdwick sheep

are resting till morning, quite sound asleep

Bokeh and Scotch Pancakes

Salford, 25th February 2017

I’m feeling rather happy today.

There’s a reason for this.  As people know, I’ve been participating in photography classes whilst I get back on my feet

The classes take place at the Brain & Spinal injury centre off Eccles New Road, close by to the Neurological wing at Salford Royal Hospital (Hope)

Subject of the day : One China Cup – Soon to be lit up

I used my Sony Cybershot in the session – and the class put together a series of shots which (I thought) would look good on the screen.

Some came out blurry, whilst some – didn’t come out at all

I did this test shot, to make sure my camera was working with the lens filter.  I quite like it, as it looked like it was snowing indoors!

eventually though – the lights began to appear through the lens.  Having thrown the image off focus – the effect was finalised using a photoshop filter – glowing edges which created the colourfully lit bubbles rising from the teacup.

I was looking for rainbows today – and they appeared – thanks to a little bokeh magic.

I celebrated my achievement with a plate of scotch pancakes….but there will be more like this soon, so watch this space.

Four elements from nature

#discoverwp

northern winds bring the clouds to the British isles

over the hillsides they come and droplets fall

rivers and streams flow down hill, over the

terrain containing the minerals in the ground

hot coals keeping miners cottages warm

everybody expects an icy blast this time of year,

rainbows ,Christmas trees, and snowmen, an added bonus

note though…the local wildlife are sleeping till spring

Roman Wall – Mamucium

Manchester, 26th July 2016

In honour of the Roman Wall at Manchester’s Castlefield I wrote this brief little ditty.

Pulled it out of the leaves of Notebook 1 so I can share it with you all

(Artwork created by me – using Corel Painter)

Manchesters Roman Wall - An apt subject for an Impressionist Painting.

Ave! My friend.

 and welcome!, sit down.

rest, as you enter this garrison town.

 You have reached Mamucium

 or “Castle-in-the-field”

it’s a place, where we Romans

 don’t often yield.

 We fight with the Pilum

 and fight with the sword

 defending our lands

 from the blue pictish hordes

 We have a great legion

 five hundred men strong

 to service the need of

 the wall, that’s quite long

And we’ll go off to Deva

to have fun for the night

 arriving to watch

 the gladiators fight.

Little Old Red is resting, he’s done its best.

When the world was at war, and bombs fell to the floor

These crafty bombs made fire over concrete and grass

so firecrews met round him to work t…

Feathered Assassin

Sits on a vintage building

Waiting for Dinner

Sharpened talons gripped,

eyes focused on the quarry

his targets are marked

The pigeons gather

over the square together

strengthened in Number?

Moving in one Move

The feathers in the Gardens

make for Safe Haven

Swooshing and Swooping

over Manchester’s Skyline

Mission – Accomplished

Lakeland Landscape

Lakeland Harbour and Hills, Penrith, Cumbria

I was looking out for the fluffy white clouds in the Cumbrian Skies – but got a lovely view of the hills from this viewpoint.

Blue skies and wonderful scenery – a lovely place to take a break – tranquil and relaxing.
