I

Friday night in the Manchester Air

the birds are out for the night

in certain spots where the birdseed flows

and the neon lights paint the town

Sometimes Red, Sometimes Blue

II

Cats are out, and on the prowl

kings of their own domain

out in their preened green jungle

playing with their catnip toys

Sounding out a evensong

before tucking in to impromptu lunch

III

Down by the deep

under the shade – sound of feathered bridge

canard and his friends enjoy their grub – discussing the days events

keeping close together

so they keep their little ones warm

IV

four paws return from patrol

result from the hunt ? minimal

no chance of a fishy surprise – so he lets out a wail

but whats this ? something meaty awaits

by the cat blanket

V

who’s this coming up the garden path

playing in the snow and rain

big paw prints heading for the door

tail in the air, big wet nose on the floor

grown up puppy asks – Hello ! Time for Tea ? I would agree

Two brothers

#octpowrimo #dogs #pointers

Two dogs…twins ? By inky

Been apart for a while , but

Really you never forget family

Out on the green fields

Two siblings meet, for the first time in a while

Happy to see each other, with

Eager calls and sniffs

Ready to run after one another for

Simply enjoying the moment

Not any Mongrel

Cur.gif

Cur

Salford, 27th April 2018

They say he’s a mongrel

a lower class

not to the standard of the pedigrees

But this cur has much more to offer

than those pedigree chums in the kennels

look at that  swagger – look at the smile

loyalty to his owner that sticks out a mile

And while pedigrees are pampered

he’s wagging his tail – in garden wi a stick

chasing down chew toys

compared to pedigrees – he’s quick!

Ode to a cactus

Prickle

Cactus

Once only found in Desert sand

a gardener decided to hatch a plan

developing a succelent

that’s happy at home, as well as gardenment

living in pots of sandy soil

whilst in the heat other plants toiled

this funny green plant, just grew away

amusing those in the garden at play

flowering in the sunshine smile

the cactus kept children amused for a while

as they spent the passing hours

counting his blooming colourful flowers

and being shorter than his bigger kind

the cats and dogs they didnt mind

for when their paws did feel a prickle

they smiled – for the cactus – kind of tickled

Late Night Listening

Twenty to two

you’re wide awake

listening to the sounds

that the night owls make

The rumble of goods

from factory to store

the bells of the crossings

as the train tracks roar

Cool cats wail out

their tunes on the corner

sounding like a group

of funeral mourners

And the horns and the boombox

from some blokes passing car

Make you wonder why you

left your window ajar

But soon there is silence

tween fall and rise of the sun

till the birds bring the news

that the mornings begun.

Rovers Dream

@

A piece of poetry written for Allpoetry.com by me

Rover

In a corner, on his cushion he sleeps
Rover, a dog who jumps and leaps.
He’s on a Canine stretch of joys,
A beach that’s full of bones and toys.
And whilst there he’ll have his fill,
of ham hocks whilst there’s time to kill.
And when he’s full he’ll fill his goal,
of landing bones in every hole.
When there’s nothing left to do
his choice of chew toys he will chew,
and balls and bones of rubber he’ll play,
until its time for the start of the day.
Just before daybreak, on the beach he’ll pick
an arboreal plaything, in form of a stick
One final run , to stretch his paws
and then he’s woken by ‘im indoors
but he wont be ever so glum,
when facing his breakfast of Pedigree Chum!
