They say if you can remember the sixties – you weren’t there
but fashion’s a fickle thing
Millennials walking down to the disco
in an homage to their Mums and dads
with some wide flares and knee high boots
listening and dancing to tunes on played on vinyl
that mum danced with dad when they were young
there’s something missing with that digital stuff
no feel, snap , crackle or pop
hearing the groove from the record player – its top!

I wanna be that fellow
That dances with the redhead
In a Viennese waltz
At the end of the night

I want to guide her
Around the floor
Her dainty feet skipping
Off the glitter ball lights

Eyes on the prize
As lights skip on the floor
And Rose Red dances delightfully
With her Prince Charming

Captivated by her delicate poise
Our movement just floating … hardly a noise
And watching us both….a bit of a crowd
Though it’s only the music that seems a bit loud

Fireworks ? Magic as we travel around floor
The crowd they applaud and yell out for more
But as spotlight leaves us, something they’ll miss
In the dark of a second, a surreptitious kiss

going round in the same circles
but passing each other without noticing

as you head out to venture the dance hall floor
Daintily passing over the polished wood floor
are two pairs of feet, skipping happily across it
never seen together before – they haven’t a
care or a worry – just so long as the girl is happy
in her boyfriends arms, Dancing the
night away together – following each others
groove under the lights
The music and the lasers are rounded on you
Reality is – they’ve got you in their spell
As you dance around the disco following the haze
Not knowing when to stop
Creating mayhem on the floor chasing the lights – no
Exception – you’ll dance till you drop
jump and jive to the jingle jangle
as the wind chimes out in the garden
noisily dance in the gentle breeze
great spruces and pines join in
listing from left to right in some dance
each moving their own unique way

Running riot at the school hall hop
Boys cant wait for the chance to
Entertain you on the dance hall floor

For some, they are seen floating in mid air
undercurrents of air gently lifting them up and down
seen amongst the green – they are the ballerinas of the garden
captivating the eye of the gardener and the
heart of the passer by as they perform their routine
it’s a wonder to see in the light of the morning sun
as a host of flowery dances take place – attracting the fauna.

Captured in a bottle ,
and Released in the ballroom
At the high school dance.
