Close encounters of the slurred kind

#Writeclub

The fluted cocktail glass

took a fateful tumble on the bar floor

after third refill of that cocktail

everyone told her not to have

The luminosity of the puddle

led to some strange things “Blowing her mind”

her mates watched on

as she performed the fandango with a streetlight called Bill

Her pals got her home eventually

navigating her stillettos

over craftily curved cobbles

and limestone slabs

Sobering up, made her ponder

how her silver coins had changed

into salty cashew nuts

propped up by the garden gate

singing along to the cats chorus

The treasure room

#socs #where

the possessions have spouted legs again

they were secure in your hold

the other day

but that was before

you were jiving away

happy as anything – to the latest swing

your bag keeping tight – all your bling

but being ignored – they walked from the scene

and having spotted the loss – you turned green

but do not fear – wipe away those tears

after you left thru door – cleaners took the floor

finding things – in the post-event gloom

and storing them all in a very strong room

Orchestrate

10th April 2020

The pan – the arena

for potatoes carrots and cabbage

to star in a theatrical number with the humble tomato

dancing around in a pool of delicious stock

releasing flavours and aromas into the air

stock cubes and herbs await stage left

but their arrival has to be timed right

as the vegetables dance and dive around

developing taste in the pan

when all is ready – the final act….

diving headlong into the porcelain soup dish

where a brown bread cob is waiting.

Valid

#fowc #Valid

Veiled attempts to seem normal

a ticket to the dance , on a Friday night

looking at your loved one , as if you seemed to care

it seems to be working – they’re not all staring at you

don’t destroy it by being a doughnut at the bar!

What a thing to find!

expensive trinket lost in the hay

by the farmers daughter

shenanigans afoot

from last nights barn dance ?

Revival

#freedomofexpression #revival

Returning for three nights…to the place of their youth

Excited parents gather round to enjoy a performance

Vitalised for a new audience

If you looked at the script…it hasn’t changed much

Versatile young things star with masters of their craft

As seasoned fans of the drama sit with brand new groupies

Like it or loathe it….you’ll go just to see if it was good as the last time

Retro

In response to Fandango’s One word Challenge

They say if you can remember the sixties – you weren’t there

but fashion’s a fickle thing

Millennials walking down to the disco

in an homage to their Mums and dads

with some wide flares and knee high boots

listening and dancing to tunes on played on vinyl

that mum danced with dad when they were young

there’s something missing with that digital stuff

no feel, snap , crackle or pop

hearing the groove from the record player – its top!

Fireworks on the dance floor

I

I wanna be that fellow

That dances with the redhead

In a Viennese waltz

At the end of the night

Ii

I want to guide her

Around the floor

Her dainty feet skipping

Off the glitter ball lights

Iii

Eyes on the prize

As lights skip on the floor

And Rose Red dances delightfully

With her Prince Charming

Iv

Captivated by her delicate poise

Our movement just floating … hardly a noise

And watching us both….a bit of a crowd

Though it’s only the music that seems a bit loud

V

Fireworks ? Magic as we travel around floor

The crowd they applaud and yell out for more

But as spotlight leaves us, something they’ll miss

In the dark of a second, a surreptitious kiss

Old Friends

Note from Inky:

Cheers to

https://serafinajayne.wordpress.com/2017/02/09/friendship/

for the prompt

You’ve been around for a bit

going round in the same circles

but passing each other without noticing

You shared everything

from gobstoppers to pencil cases

and spots on the high school bus

Your paths met

a lifetime fork in the road

as you went one way, and they went another

You wandered where they ended up

No phone calls letters or e-mails

Till one day – a message – “You’ve got mail”

Arrangements made

and best suit pressed

for a meet of the whole year – most impressed

And as you reach, the dance hall door

your old friends sat waiting – like you knew them before

as you head out to venture the dance hall floor

Tripping the light fantastic

Dancing

Daintily passing over the polished wood floor

are two pairs of feet, skipping happily across it

never seen together before – they haven’t a

care or a worry – just so long as the girl is happy

in her boyfriends arms, Dancing the

night away together – following each others

groove under the lights
