Me and my chums in the photography group at BASIC played around with some special effects today.
Using images from magazines and some toy cars and lego men, We created something rather special…courtesy of our cameras (including my trusty Sony DSC) and a Tripod.
Now, creating the Images didn’t involve any space travel…just the right background and a close up zoom lens…as well as an anchor for the toy cars and figures we used in the shots.

Today was the first session of BASICs photography sessions in our new home.
We’ve upped sticks from the side room used for Memory workshop and have set up in the portacabin which was once used by the art group, next to the enchanted garden.
Preparations began last week, as we cleared out some of the tables and surplus and set up a studio area
Moving to the portacabin has allowed us a little bit more space to store equipment, and provided us with a dedicated space for our studio shots. in the summer when the garden is in bloom – it will give us access to the trees and the flowers growing there.

…Following last weeks close up food shots, we continued the theme with a heap of vegetables to produce some wonderful still life artwork. The vegetables were set on a Square slate and against a marble backdrop
No Auto today! each picture was taken manually – with me setting up angles and close ups of the food stuffs.
Camera used was my able Bridge camera : Sony DSC H-300 with zoom. Great camera with some wonderful zoom functions.

In today’s photography session, we’ve been learning about lighting effects with flowers to create some striking and wonderful pictures.
The lights were hidden away behind a soft linen mesh which allowed the light to shine through it whilst hiding the lights themselves. This concentrated the light on the flower head itself – enhancing the individual colours in the flowers and creating a wonderful effect.
I liked this particular shot because of the way the colours were enhanced in the tulips head.

Today’s session involved creating ‘reminders’ for our cameras.
We were each given an envelope with tags with the common functions of our cameras and each of us had to write down how to get each function on our camera.
I created my set of ‘tags’ for my Sony Cybershot, (DSC H-300) as its the camera I will be using mostly, to create images for this Blog
How to switch on Flash, what modes were on the camera, and basic file operations were some of the things we had to find and when we had – scribbled the ‘how to’ on the back of each tag…with each member of the group having various different cameras, it will help when we go into more complex processes in creating our photos.
Each set of tags will be laminated so we can use them Indoors and Outdoors.
After we had completed the exercise, we did a spot of close – up photography with some jars of sweets.
