Many a happy time

Enjoyed on the shoreline

Munching away at the contents

Of a well prepared picnic basket

Roast chicken sandwiches and strawberry tarts

Iced buns and banana pudding….

Eaten on a camp blanket, by a rocky shelter

Somewhere where the sardines are safe from the local seagulls

Meat pie

Food, Poetry

They lined up down the street

For a chance they got one

The kids on the grapevine

Whispering the news

The meat pies are in

The boys from baxendale

Made young men smile

As a waft of meat

Travelled from the chip shop

The meat pies were in

And wrapped up with chips

And a dash of chip shop vinegar

Young lads would follow their dads

Delivering Friday nights tea

The meat pies were in

Chicken Soup (Panacea)

Acrostic, Food, Health

Perhaps you say, it could have magical properties

as the recipe has been passed down the generations for years

notably, it reaches parts your chemists cold cures dont

and it’s tasty to the person that’s eating it

changes to little things like seasonings, are expected through time but

everybody knows the core of chicken, onion and carrot

and mum and dad know – they’ll have empty bowls and seconds asked for

The Art of a sandwich

Acrostic, Food

Edible

Some say it begins with

a loaf of bread, nicely sliced – type – to your preference – two slices

next – comes the spread – butter, margarine, salad cream or sandwich spread

dedicated sandwich makers always go for the mayo

when that’s been applied, on goes the salad, lettuce cucumber tomato

If you fancy it, add olives or sweetcorn and then

cover it in your favourite meat before putting the top on

heavenly!!!!

zingy! (Sweet n sour)

Food, Poetry

Zing!

i don’t know what it is…

but theres summat in that there chicken and rice

that gives it a special kind of Zing

with each mouthful , senses bring the dish to life

aromas, sweet, peppery and sour

drift up the nose as if to say. I m so Zesty

aromas of spice chicken, pepper and pineapple

tickle the tastebuds as spoon delivers each tasty mouthful

waking them up with a message from the dish

I’m So Zingy, enjoy!

The construction of a sandwich

Food

In response to the prompt
Layers

I’ll freely admit – I used to love going into a certain sandwich shop at Lunchtime.

The ladies and gents were like craftsmen – creating a sandwich, the way I wanted it and with the toppings I desired.

Six kinds of bread – Two Italian style, one with herbs

Would I like it Toasted, Warm, or as is…warming the Italian bread with herbs brought out the flavour so I went with that

then came the Salad – a smorgasbord of salad….Onion, Peppers, Sweetcorn, Olives – not forgetting the regular stuff you would find on your average salad.  For me, Tomatoes and Cucumber was the order of the day, and perhaps sweetcorn and olives if I felt the need

then came the actual meats, Salami, Ham, Pepperoni, or maybe Chicken Teriyaki Italian meatballs?  Go Veggie – you got the smorgasbord with the Veggie Deluxe.

Not Veggie – but didn’t want meat – Tuna was on the menu.

Want sauce – everything from chilli sauce to Marinara if you wanted it

and then to top it all off – “would you like cheese with that”?

Chicken Wraps – Easy enough to prepare

Wraps, Salad, Chicken, Sauce of Choosing

Want to challenge yourself – Cook and spice the chicken

If however you want this quickly use a prepared sauce

Don’t forget the Salt and pepper though…

Roll it all together in the wrap and give it a minute or two in the microwave …

Demolish in your own time 🙂
