Fantasy

#SoCS #Fan

Salford 6th June 2020

For many years , i’ve been a fan of the fantasy genre.

as Local folk writers with hi tales of mystical lands

near to, or in the vicinity of my home garden

terrific and tantalizing tales of witches and wizards

all playing round in a coppice or wood

some tales are close to the truth –

those up the road by the pennines will tell you that. And

you’ll hear the ghosts and ghouls every time all hallows eve comes about

and enjoy letting your imagination go wild

Veiled

#writephoto #veiled

Up on the hillside, who is that

hiding up in those misty hills

are we being over looked

by giant’s giving us chills ?

for out there in the distance

characters standing still

leaving us nothing but shadows

only caught by pencil or quill

A cast of thousands

#fowc #cast #thousands

from an ant trying to save the world

to a familiar mouse in a sorcerers suit

they sit on my bookshelf

awaiting their curtain call

a cast of thousands awaiting

their appearance on a digital stage

Top shelf of life ?

hardly!

reality is it might look like he’s in the middle, but

everyone knows he’s the one they want to

engage with.

Pull up a chair, take in a show

As you watch a tale, read to little ones at

Night-time,

There’s a range of characters

On the stage, in bright coloured attire

Making Mirth , for your entertainment

If you’re lucky – they’ll be a

Musical number or maybe magic tricks and

Everyone enjoys the antics of the panto animals

Mr Milnes tale , captured perfectly

In a moment

Notes of colour , delicately transferred onto

It’s material base

As models go, it sings the

Tale of the Hundred Acre Wood, in wonderful wonder

Uniquely created for a special store,

Reds through to Violets bring characters to life

Exceptional.

Percolate

Percolate
Born in the Sun

Saved from Birds – Red Blue and Yellow

The humble little coffee bean

is a hardy fellow

Grown in the warmth

of a plantation

with 50,000,000

brothers and sisters

picked from its parent

it travels for miles

travelling in bags

with no room to smile

asked to improve

the heated aqua

and roasted within

an inch of its life

Life force captured

in three sizes of cup

and then the final insult

the drop of milk and sugar

Ancient

Roman Wall & Sheep_PaintingAncient

Ancient

by B.F. Kirkham

Salford, 20th October 2016

Among the Modern tower blocks

and chic café quarters

the old bricks tell tales

of the city history

Listen very carefully,

and beyond the sounds

of modern cars

different wheels are turning

Steam whistles pipe

as the engine wheels turn

and locos roll on

like it was yesterday

Aircraft await

their signal to move

ready to go

with a simple jump

Whilst across the road

Legions Amass by Roman Bricks

Preparing to March

Down Liverpool Road

And Young Glass buildings

Smile in the night

Breaking the silence with juvenile quips

“Hey Grandad….You’re Ancient!”

Books from Childhood

In response to the prompt

Second Time Around

My bookshelf is ever evolving,

Fiction, Comedy, Drama

And a whole host of autobiographies from celebrities far and wide.

But alongside these, recently, have come familiar tales from my childhood.

Long john Silver shares a space with Paddington Bear and Winnie the Pooh.  The Riverbank tales of Kenneth Graham have evolved thanks to the English Writer, William Horswood and more recently Douglas Adams Arthur Dent has shared a bench with the likes of Rincewind, Angua and Detritus of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld

I’ve read the Arthur Ransome tale of the Walker Children in their boat on the English Lakes, Swallows and Amazons , a number of times.  The First time being at High school.  It tells the tale of their first adventure out at water on their boat, the swallow and their experiences of taking a boat out for the first time.  You could say i caught the bug for exploring after reading this book – exploring the land and sea with the Scouts and Ocean Youth Club some time after.
