bursting colour out into the night sky

revellers watching the sight as the bells chime

it’s almost time for old father time to switch with his younger brother

launching a whole new year

light show of exploding sparkle

it’s like someone’s brightened up the darkness

and people are partying under it as the new year arrives

note the whooshing of the rockets and

the sound of the crowd as they travel towards the moon

For many ,

If someone planned to

Raise their home to the ground –

Expectations

Wouldn’t be to celebrate with Toffee apples or Parkin

Of course when Guido’s night comes about

Reactions aren’t about his attempt to

Kill those in the houses of parliament more the

Silver and Golden trails that rise up to the sky

Finesse

There was some artistry

in the way the embroiderer

had set the scene on the patch

a celebration of outdoor activity

life under canvas for

over one hundred years

colours distinct – to stand out from the crowd

and if the needlework on the edge

wasn’t noticed

the bit in the middle would be

Hop

Who’s that hopping in the garden

dropping eggs round the lawn

“I’m celebrating” he tells everyone

“The saviours been reborn”

and so with his very bouncy feet

he’s leaving everyone a treat

in places that are not so sunny

delivering gifts – the easter bunny

Back to Normal

#Christmas

The twelth day of christmas is almost here

The decorations waiting to be put back in the box

Till the sound of sleigh bells in December

Resolutions made

Plans prepared

and the room looks like the elves had never visited

meanwhile the evergreens head for the sky

waiting for the springtime trim

and the return of their feathered friends

They say its still Christmas

there’s six weeks or so till lent

but i’m not wishing the season away

the winters not been spent

New Year, New Day

The first post of 2021.

New year in colour – Big Ben at Midnight, splash of colour by inky

I

The hour past

The bells chimed

One year confined to the history books

One year to look forward to

II

Late Nights

Laced with wine, food, drinking and song

Leads to a long nap under the duvet

Lying in on the downward strait to twelth night

III

Promises made – Resolutions

in changing and interesting times

enjoying a feast at the first day of the year, while

some prepare, to head out for bargains

Advent II

Christmas countdown starts today

Heaven looking down as the first candle on the

Resplendent wreath is lit

It’s four sundays till the

Special event, but on these days

There’s less focus on turkey and tinsel,

More the reason we celebrate the day

Advent calendars count down each day , that the

Saviour arrived.

Landmark

Look around

and you will find them everywhere

north to south

distinct buildings, created for a purpose

many come from far and wide just to see the

architecture, while others like to look

’round the facilities, taking in all the history and artifacts

kept within the walls of the building

Standing Stones (Image S.C. Vincent)

During certain times of the year

A number of revellers can be found

Notably dancing around the odd standing stone

Celebrating a harvest or maybe a god or two

Expecting good things in the months to come

Manchester’s Dragon, Chinese New Year 2020

#Dragon #Chinese #NewYear #Luck #Manchester

Dancing lightly through the Manchester streets,

Royal dragons parade past the town hall

A colourful line of lanterns decorate the quarter

Going round the gates of China town

Of course, you’ll hear the sounds of gongs and drums

Now and again broken through by fire crackers
