Outrageous Orange

If anyone saw your recklessness

bounding from flower to flower

pinching the finest nectar from each one

I’m pretty sure – they’d be shocked

no wonder the bees are fed up

but people see your pale orange wings

and just smile

not knowing you’ve just done a heist in the garden

Butterfly in the Garden

Bringing a flash of colour
from the movement of its wings
the sight of them landing on the greens
oh what joy it brings

like windows of brightness
they appear on the green
having grown from caterpillars
mostly unseen

with wings translucent it passes by
it brings to the watcher a smile
who watches as in the air it flies
and stays in the garden a while

rainbows flutter as it moves round the green
stopping on a leaf where it can be seen
enjoying the sunshine whilst out in flight
and resting on plants at the dark of night

And while you see them flying about
their eggs have landed on plants – don’t shout
for caterpillars from eggs will grow
and soon new butterflies will be on show

Colourful insects that fly through the air
bringing a smile to those who are aware
keeping the flowers in garden a go
as they flutter round colours, to and fro

I like butterflies, i like the coloured patterns on their wings

I took this picture of a yellow and black butterfly whilst on holiday in Zakynthos, in Greece.

Turquoise Blue

turquoise

A tale of a turquoise butterfly

To some , who watch you

under a binoculars lenses – your winged colours

reflect a wonderful green-blue iridescence

quite breath-taking at both day and night

usually the watcher would spend an age in their hide

only coming out to grab an

instant photograph on their camera

something to show the folks back home

evidence of what they were waiting an age in that field for

Butterfly

by Brian F Kirkham

Born from a tiny little egg

the caterpillar emerges

eating every leaf of green

it moves each every single leg

as it eats and growth it surges

till one day it hides away – to return with wings

it hides away unseen

and then the moment it breaks out – and its colour sings
