Dough

#fowc #Dough

Down in a corner of the kitchen

Over by the bread bin and

Under a tea towel

Great things are happening – the bread’s beginning to prove

Hot ovens await, and butter and jam soon after

Fish and Chips – Kind Of

fish in parsley sauce – impressionist by inky.

The noble fish sat on my plate

hadn’t had a battering

it had been enjoying a bath like Cleopatra

getting all warm and tasty

Upon leaving the path it was

wrapped up in a coat of green

to enhance its wonderful flavour

and rested on a bed of buttery potato

And while it lay there in on the plate

lying in its luxury

a cohort of peas stood on a potato ridge

to keep it safe from wondering eyes

But alas all were devoured

in the haze of white and green

grappled apart by trident and sword

by the chef and his guests

Toast

Salford , 25th April 2019

Triangular wonder

cooked by the heat of a thousand suns

in a silver toaster

warming and turning

soft white (or maybe brown) bread

golden and toasty

Yellow butter melts

as it lands on the surface

sinking slowly at the sound of the pop

of a jar opening and the imminent arrival

of the strawberry jam.

Eccles Cakes

Salford, 12th February 2019

Filled to the brim

with wonderful fruit

your average kid ponders

how they can squeeze so much

into something smaller than a scone

Wall to wall raisins

sit side by side

in their sleeping bag

of flaky pastry

Buttered Scones

5th February 2019

Scones

After its appearance on Luna’s poetry bar , I thought i’d best provide it with its own spot from its originators page

I don’t know how they came up with it

they may argue about its serving

but it must have been a marvel

when flour and butter and sugar

were brought together in a combo

by the milk on the doorstep

Now coming out at four o clock

for the ladies at afternoon tea

the debate heats up on jam and cream

but a bit of southwest butter on those sultanas

is fine for a Lancashire lad like me

Fudge

image.jpgferried by box or by bag

Usually on birthdays

Delightful cubes of butter sugar and cream

Get sent to the house

Easily a delightful treat

Fairs at Christmas time

usually have stalls selling this

delicious treat, and it’s not just cubes

great shapes are made using cutters

expect strawberry hearts, mint chocolate rounds and raspberry diamonds

Challenge for the Letter T entry was a little different – any photo but must have two Ts in the title

So as i pondered over some buttered toast , i considered what sort of images i could use

I like butterflies, i like the coloured patterns on their wings

I took this picture of a yellow and black butterfly whilst on holiday in Zakynthos, in Greece.

Childhood Eating Garden Poetry

Snack time

Bite

lunch was two hours ago

and dinner is hours away

the hunger pangs are out of the cage

And they’ve begun to play

So over to the brown bread you go

And forage for a filling or two

When the jars of peanut butter and jam

Located above tonight’s spiced ham

Decide to greet you hello

Just the thing till dad makes tea

And summmat that you’ll eat with glee

Out in the garden without delay

Before running around the garden to play

Coconut – a favourite

transported to the tongue

heading for hips

Asparagus

#Coloryourworld #Cyw #Asparagus

asparagus

As far as I know, I’ve never seen your flowers

Some gardeners I’ve spoken to say they’re white, some say yellow

Perhaps they’re both right – but its your green stalks that

Attract the cooking fraternity , as you bathe in butter and herbs

Rolling around the pan developing your flavour

Adorable little stalks, who when departing from the pan are

Going to be joined in a mix, with Parma Ham and an Egg

Until you’ve been eaten – the critics would never understand

Some would say – you’re only good for soup, but the diners know better.
