Early morning conversation

Animals, Garden, Life, Nature

Salford, 27th May 2017

A tale of early morning – beyond the window

As luna heads off to bed

and the stars drift off to sleep

the feathers start a moving

on the slates and tiles.

Discussions on the latest morsel

available today down by the quay

whilst little sparrows duck and dive on

new shoots of grass on the lawn, they see

Awaiting arrival of milk on the mat

getting to the silvertops before the cat

and heading in the air for a stretch of the wings

collective chorus engaged in a sing.

The forest call

is heard across the trees

mother and father wolf, are teaching their cubs

bears and panther may assist, but

every wolf cub in the pack knows

real learning comes from mum and dad

when the time is right to spread their paws

only the cubs themselves will know

life beyond the pack doors can be hazardous – but

friends can be found for life there

A place the wild things call home

greenery up and down the land

from the tiniest of bugs to man’s cousins

they all live here

co – existing under the shelter of mother natures clouds

and whilst little ones play in watery lagoons

others sleep in treetops – till the rising of the moon

jungle-green

Much more a forest

with lots more trees

a place where mother nature

can be very pleased

A backdrop of green

for animals to stay

and their families to thrive

and their young ones to play

with colourful characters

living up in their tree

living off produce

of the flora and bee

Playing in mud

and washing in falls

the little cubs having fun

and having a ball!

In time – you’ll become a wonderful thing

Noted for the wonderful patterns on your wing

Caterpillar family – small you may be

Hoping to sleep in the best of the tree

When you are little – you cannot be seen

Out eating the leaves of the trees whilst you’re green

Remaining on trees till you start to take flight

Making small kids smile from morning through night

(Zebra) Crossing

Animals, Fun, Poetry, Schooldays

Salford, 4th January 2017

in response to the prompt Crossing

Another day walking down Salford’s streets

networks of transport – getting round’s a treat

but something’s made me smile this new year

creating a grin from to ear to ear

Clopping across the tarmacadam covered road

making his way from his towerblock abode

A noble striped horse – on his way to the shops

off to get his tea he pops

Apples and Grains the order of the day

for the zebra and his family – at home at play

a familiar sight for the locals about

they smile and they wave – they don’t shout

Mr Zebra works all day

whilst Mrs Zebra looks after the kids at play

and kiddie zebras go to school in th’week

playing with friends playing hide and seek

To visitors seeing them – its a surprise

and some of them seeing zebra on road – cries

“Stop fussing!” say locals – “No need for your bossing…”

“Haven’t you ever seen a Zebra Crossing ?”

Horoscope Zoo

By Brian F Kirkham

The twins were bored,
they had nothing to do
so off with their mum
they went to the zoo.

They went to the Farm section
and fed the sheep and the goats
The twins liked Capricorn
who had a bell round his throat.

Over in another pen,
were the cows and the bull
Taurus, was his name
and was eating till he was full

Taurus was real large,
and had horns really big,
one twin noted
“He eats like a Pig!!!”

They visited Leo
in his grand lions hall
Lying on his rock
the primmest cat of all

And over by Leo,
the waters flowed by
where Crabs they scuttle
and silver fish fly

“Who’s That?” said the Twins to Mum
Pointing over to a man by the sea
“Why that’s Aquarius , Children,
he’s catching Leo’s Tea!!!”

Changing of the seasons

Autumn, Nature, Poetry

Whilst walking
Through the city green
I saw the leaves turn from
Green to brown
And watched as they
Drifted on the wind
Through the town
Local birds are confused
Amassed on the tops
And squirrels they wonder
Why their food has all dropped
It’s much too early
And not too late
So why go and forage
And hibernate?

Horse Chestnut Tree

by Brian F Kirkham

Sat there regally, in his park,
with brothers and sisters in an arc,
The Horse Chestnut tree spends his day
watching the children and adults at play.
He’ll be there, sitting, every week
as little children play hide and seek
and others shelter in the sun
while eating sandwiches or a bun

He shelters birds from passing rain,
and watches it flow down nearby drains
he protects those animals that don’t like to be pinned
by that autumnal passing wind

The Horse Chestnut Tree, is an amiable chap
and when all is quiet, he’ll take a nap
There’s only one thing – That drives him bonkers
when kids climb up him to pinch his conkers!
